Talking is teaching, and parents and families are children’s first teachers. Our first conversations with our babies help them build the vocabulary and language skills they will use to keep growing, learning, and developing early social and literacy skills.
313Speaks serves Detroit neighborhoods with fun, family-centered activities to help parents and guardians learn how to nurture their children’s language through play and talk in everyday activities, such as taking a bath. Data show that for every month of participation in 313Speaks, children average a gain of 1.5 developmental months of language skills.
Why is that important?
Well, because little learners with such powerful abilities to recognize words and social prompts and questions are more likely to be set-up for success in school and life!
